  • In my research on Army size and quality and how these affects various stats, I am having trouble deciding how best to invest during my initial visit to Yhilin.

I want to make as many increases as possible to my army size and quality, so I have found that this requires investing in Premium steel in round 1 and mine processing, but I also want to fund the bridge repair so that it is accessible during the Yhilin Invasion. I am also trying to figure out who it would be best to hire for mercenary companies during this time, both to protect Carina's men and to strengthen my army to maximize rewards. The ari-guarda seems like the best choice, but being the most expensive, will I have enough ProN for all of this at this time? Assuming 60k acquired for megail's deal.

    • If you want a mercenary companion go for the Iron Cudgel, you get 10 instead of 5 by taking them now. The dusty horde will die regardless at a later date, and ari-gardna will get hired by someone else. The Iron Cudgels are the one who stays.

    • Thanks. I just finished doing my projected calculation for the battle for Yhilin and I also came to that conclusion. But I believe I may have also found another typo or I messed up the math. The guide for the Yhilin Invasion says that we can get a max of 30 army size and 14 quality. I got 14 quality, but 32 max army size. I took the 10 army size and 4 quality from Orcent's group from the battle against the Horde by the watch towers, and then added all the bonuses, assuming I am able to acquire all the stat boosts and it added up to 32. So i am not sure if I was supposed to include a certain amount of death toll for Orcent's forces after the battle. Can anyone clarify this for me?

    • You can only have 8 size, 4 quality from non-human forces at the horde battle.

    • Getting more than 30 size at the start of BoY is literally impossible, unless changed by Sierra. What you are clearly missing is the stats in the first Army Recalculation table (basically, you need to count only nonhuman forces, which is at most 30 size and 14 quality).

    • Thank you. I had a feeling I was missing something, and that was it, the recalculation. And that reminds me, one of the calculations immediately before the war is listed as "Orc Research", is that just having it researched by Robin or must it have been initiated by Balia?

    • You don't have an option to actually evolve orcs before BoY, so just Robin.

    • So I am running through Megail's Deal (again!), and for some reason I can't get the shining sword to appear of the Pub's basement after I kill the rats then return. I have tried various combinations, but nothing seems to make the shining sword appear, which I need in order to get the 60k ProN during the first visit to Stineford. Can anyone help me out?

It sounds like you are confused about multiple things. The shining sword appears when you return to that location in early Chapter 2. It, and the rat quest, are also irrelevant to getting ProN for Megail's deal.

    • Alright, because it seems to link them to each other in the secrets and collectables section on the guide because they are both posted as occuring during the first visit.

    • Unhelpful answer: "That'd be the girls in the Stineford brothel."

    • Another question about the investments. When certain investments must be done before the reunion, in order to be ready in time for the BoY, Those done during megails path count as well correct?

      Correct.

      Correct.

Excepting Premium Steel, I believe.  That has to be done before Chapter 1 ends.

Seriously, you'll want to look at the Investments wiki page and the detailed Battle of Yhilin page.  That should explain all the variables and you can determine what your priorities should be.  (Alternately, you can use the save game editor to give yourself all the ProN you can spend.)

I have looked at all of them, but sometimes things get a little confusing because there is so much going on beneath the surface that it gets hard to keep track of it all, even when i write a ton of stiuff down. As for the game editor, that's not my thing, I am just trying to workout my best possible options working with what we are given.

    • "before the end of chapter 1" is an error inducing formulation since start of Chapter 2 is still valid. Before Megail's Path ùight be better.
